    Check out sock monkey on Wickapedia. The red lips are because the original socks had tradmark used for sock monekys “Rockford” socks, the first machine made socks without a seam in the heel had red heels.

      Yeah! Very good point. I just read the wikipedia entry today. It also has the history of the sock-monkey. Then I went to google and found all sorts of versions. My favorite was the “Spock-mokey”, one that looks like Mr. T, and a really fat buddha-sockmonkey. The more I learn about them, the more I like them.
